Kansas City Powder Coating Services

Powder Coating is a dry finishing process, using finely ground particles of pigment and resin, electrostatically charged and sprayed onto a part to be coated. The metal parts are electrically grounded so that the charged paint particles sprayed at them adhere to the surface and are held there until melted and fused into a smooth coating in the curing oven. The result is a uniform, durable, high quality finish. The surface of the metal to be powder coated must be clean in order for the powder to adhere properly.

RAL-Color-ButtonStandard black gloss and white gloss powder coating are on hand and are included in our standard pricing for most jobs. Jobs requiring different colors other than black or white, or powder coating of different types such as clear coat, metallic, texture or wrinkle, are quoted with the price of the powder coating separate and require a lead time to order and receive the powder coat, before beginning the coating process.

Color Options For Powder Coating

Powder coating has different appearance characteristics. The color variety is almost limitless. Most jobs requiring colors other than white or black can match their desired color using the Standard RAL Color Chart. However, if there is a need for a powder coat color that cannot be found in the standard powder coating color charts, we have the ability to have that custom made by the powder coating company. Custom Color match options come with a larger investment than standard RAL colors or powder coating standard colors and the added turnaround is longer.

The range from flat to high gloss is generally available.

There are multi-color options that combine a black base with metallic pigments of gold, silver, or copper contrasting against the black. This is called hammertone or veins and gives an antique or distressed look.

A clear coat can be used over a product as an external protective layer to deflect the sun’s ultraviolet light or to enhance the inlying powder coating color.

Metallic coatings add sparkle to the look of the product by using particles of aluminum, mica, copper, or brass.

Textured coatings are often used to hide project irregularities, which show up more with a smooth finish. The texture can vary in appearance from  fine sandpaper, to a pebbly texture, or a rougher look resembling alligator skin.

The wrinkled finish works well with high wear and weatherability conditions.

NOTE: Products can be ordered with any appearance or characteristics with a cost associated for creation, but the manufacturers have a limited number of products they mass produce outside the standard RAL color fields.
